Opportunity Description

We need help caring for our community gardens through planting, watering, weeding, composting, and orchard maintenance. In the fall, volunteers assist with harvesting, seed saving, pruning, and general garden upkeep, too.

This volunteer role is seasonal – active from April to November.

A weekly commitment is preferred, with the amount of time flexible.

We have multiple plots in the Maple Tree Community Garden where we grow food for our Food Bank, Mobile Food Market, and Food Literacy programs. There is also a small orchard that sometimes requires pruning and harvesting. The majority of the main tasks are weeding, watering, harvesting, and other upkeep tasks. We also have a native garden at our main office, and volunteers may sometimes be asked to provide maintenance at this location instead.

Must be able to:

• Safely use and handle common garden tools

• Lift up to 40 lbs (e.g., soil, mulch, or compost bags)

• Stand, bend, and perform repetitive movements for the duration of the shift

• Follow health and safety procedures, including wearing gloves, closed-toe shoes,

and protective eyewear as needed
