As a food bank volunteer, you’ll play a key role in supporting Nourish House Food Bank by packing client food orders, keeping shelves stocked, organizing donations, vacuum packing large quantities into more manageable amounts, and creating a friendly, welcoming space for folks who visit us.Must be able to:• Lift 40 lbs when needed • Stand for the duration of the shift and sustain repetitive physical movements • Adhere to required Health and Safety procedures • Maintain client confidentiality• Be able to stay calm and patient in fast-paced or challenging situations• Basic computer skills, including entering data and managing appointments in online systems• Awareness of basic food safety practices and safe handling of food

We need help caring for our community gardens through planting, watering, weeding, composting, and orchard maintenance. In the fall, volunteers assist with harvesting, seed saving, pruning, and general garden upkeep, too.This volunteer role is seasonal – active from April to November.A weekly commitment is preferred, with the amount of time flexible.We have multiple plots in the Maple Tree Community Garden where we grow food for our Food Bank, Mobile Food Market, and Food Literacy programs. There is also a small orchard that sometimes requires pruning and harvesting. The majority of the main tasks are weeding, watering, harvesting, and other upkeep tasks. We also have a native garden at our main office, and volunteers may sometimes be asked to provide maintenance at this location instead. Must be able to:• Safely use and handle common garden tools• Lift up to 40 lbs (e.g., soil, mulch, or compost bags)• Stand, bend, and perform repetitive movements for the duration of the shift• Follow health and safety procedures, including wearing gloves, closed-toe shoes,and protective eyewear as needed
